Questions and Answers about Glasses, Progressive Lenses, and Eye Health

How do progressive lenses work? When do computer glasses make sense? What are the benefits of professional centering? And what should you look out for when buying new glasses?

In this guide, the experts from Augenoptik Münster answer the most frequently asked questions about good vision, modern spectacle lenses, contact lenses, and eye health. Our answers are based on years of experience, modern measurement technology, and individual consultation – for better vision in everyday life, at work, and in traffic.

Questions about progressive lenses

Why can't I get used to my progressive glasses?

Progressive lenses must be individually tailored to the eyes, head posture, and visual habits. Even small errors in the positioning of the lenses can impair visual comfort. At Augenoptik Münster, we measure your eyes with state-of-the-art biometric measuring technology and take our time for individual adjustments. Together with a high-quality eye test and a needs analysis, our service leads to the best possible vision experience.

How much does a good pair of progressive glasses cost?

The price alone does not determine the visual comfort of progressive lenses. However, high-quality progressive lenses can often be adapted more individually to the customer. Quality lenses with high-quality coatings are often more durable than cheaper alternatives.
Here at Optik Münster, we offer glasses in every price segment. Prices for frames and coated lenses start at around €300. We also offer highlight frames and biometric progressive lenses of the highest quality for a total of €1800.
Our selection is large, so there's something for everyone.

How long does it take to get used to progressive lenses?

Most customers get used to their new varifocal glasses within a few days.

The acclimatization period depends on the quality of the lenses. Tailor-made biometric lenses significantly shorten the acclimatization time.

Questions on VDU Work

Do I need special glasses for the computer?

Those who spend several hours a day working on a PC often benefit from vision aids specially adapted to this situation.
Progressive lens wearers, in particular, experience significant relief in visual acuity and neck muscle tension.

Do computer glasses help with neck pain?

One reason for neck tension can be an unfavorable head and body posture caused by the use of normal varifocal glasses at the monitor.
A computer progressive lens, which is specially optimized for the situation at the desk, can help.
Our experts in Haselünne will be happy to advise you personally on glasses for the office.

Am I entitled to free computer glasses?

Under certain conditions: Yes.

Employees who regularly work at computer workstations are entitled to special computer glasses if normal glasses or contact lenses are not sufficient for the demands of the workplace. In this case, the employer is obliged to provide the necessary visual aid or to cover the costs thereof.

As a rule, a prerequisite is that the need is determined within the framework of an occupational health check-up or by an appropriate professional recommendation. The cost reimbursement relates to a functional workstation specific to the work. For particularly high-quality frames or additional features, an employee contribution may apply.

At Augenoptik Münster, we will be happy to advise you on computer glasses and, if desired, support you with an individual recommendation and a cost estimate for your employer.

Questions about Contact Lenses

Can everyone wear contact lenses?

Generally, contact lenses are suitable for almost everyone.
Our contact lens specialists at Augenoptik Münster look forward to finding the right contact lenses for you during a personalized consultation.

Why do I feel my contact lenses?

The wearing comfort of contact lenses depends on several factors.
These include:

  • the right material
  • size and geometry of the lens
  • composition and quantity of the tear film
  • environmental factors such as humidity and dust

During a fitting appointment, we will work together to find out which lenses are really right for you. A free trial wear will reveal how well the selected lenses are tolerated.

Questions about the Eye Test

How long does an eye test take?

An eye test with us takes approximately 30 minutes.

We start with a detailed vision analysis, followed by a high-tech wavefront measurement. This objectively measures the eye and provides a solid statement about the individual eye's imaging. This measurement forms a significant part of our high-quality consultation.
Finally, we conduct a comprehensive eye test using vision charts to subjectively achieve the best visual impression.

Appointments can be booked online or by phone at any time.

Can I take an eye test for online glasses?

In principle, our eye test is also suitable for glasses purchased online. However, we only take responsibility for the compatibility of the vision aid if it has also been fitted by us.

The quality of vision provided by glasses depends not only on a good eye test but also on individual fitting, such as the positioning of the lenses or anatomical adjustment to the wearer's head.
These are all services that clearly distinguish us as an optician with a physical store from glasses ordered online.
